TLC for Animals—My Story and My Mission
“Saving the life of one animal will not change the world, but surely the world will be changed for that one animal”
I have always loved animals. All colors, all sizes and all kinds. But, I have not wanted to think about animals being hurt, being abandoned and being dropped off at the animal shelter. It was hard for me to imagine that someone that had a dog or cat for longer than an hour could drive to the animal shelter and drop off their pet and drive away and have a good life. Or move away and leave their pet at the house abandoned.
So a couple years ago 2 of my cats disappeared when I had moved into my new house. Not at one time but over a couple months. I felt terrible, I was depressed, I cried, I searched . I couldn’t walk the depressing corridors of the animal shelter so my friends dropped off flyers to the North County Humane and to Slo County Animal Shelter and to Woods Humane Society. But, One night I was thinking how about if someone missed the flyer and my poor cats were at the shelter so I searched the shelters website and was angry, saddened and frustrated about all of the animals at the shelter but really angry at the surrendered by owner animals. 15 year old cats ,10 year old dogs..all ages, all sizes , all breeds..This was awful, this was depressing. .. so my mission began..
I called the Shelter and asked the director what I could do, we talked and then I offered some ideas and then no follow up from him.. so I pushed and called and finally he connected me with a volunteer and I pleaded with my boss to run a weekly ad showing animals from the shelter and it has been running for a year . Then I started adopting and rescuing animals for myself and for other people and then I got involved with the group Join the Pack and we are working towards educating people on tagging their pets and making sure all pets are spayed and neutered so no more unwanted puppies and kittens are crowding the shelters..And then In November 08 I held my first fundraiser and Raised $3600 to donate to North County Humane and Animal Shelter Adoption Partners and I will be holding another fundraiser in May for other animal non-profits..
My passion is to find all animals their forever home and to help all people to become better animal owners.
This website was named TLC (Tender Loving Care) for animals and its mission is to create awareness and a way to network for animal lovers, advocates and people that want to help, need to find information and want to become responsible pet owners and if they are having problems with their pets and want to find places to get help, or if they are looking for a pet they will look here before they go to a breeder or a pet store. Hopefully, if they need to find a home that will allow pets or a home for a pet we can help.. I also want to create awareness to landlords that we need to allow people to have pets in rentals if they pay extra and with extra precautions of course. But there are responsible tenants and they should be allowed to experience the love of a pet . I want it to be a networking tool with lots of info and lots of sharing stories and ideas for people to benefit from.
